New Guest Blogger: Heather Child

Hello everyone, and apologies for the lack of activity here lately!

I'd like to introduce you to our new guest blogger, Heather Child. Heather is a Bristol, UK based author who has worked in non-profit marketing for the last twelve years, coming into close contact with the digital automation and personalisation technologies that herald the 'big data' age. Everything About You is her debut novel, published by Orbit Books (US edition here); her second novel, The Undoing of Arlo Knott, is due in July 2019. You can find out more at www.heather-child.co.uk: she's on twitter as @Heatherika1, and on Facebook too. And I'm very pleased to say that she'll be posting here later this week.

Welcome aboard!
Is Heather a regular commenter here, may I ask?

Link to her site needs fixing, comes up with:

The requested URL /charlie/blog-static/2018/11/www.heather-child.co.uk was not found on this server.

Link should be as shown: https://www.heather-child.co.uk but the edification process has left the https:// off the front so it's being treated as a relative link.

Link now fixed. (Will remind me not to post updates while exhausted.)

Hi Heather; UK paperback now pre-ordered.

10:

Welcome! :-) Just bought your debut novel

11:

Thanks, buyers of Everything About You - much appreciated! If you're in the US, this site seems to deliver very affordable hard copies.

12:

Crosses arms and stares. "YOU! Get some fucking rest!!! Or I'll spend my Charles Stross book buying budget on MAGA hats!"

13:

Part of what's been exhausting our Charlie is stuff he can't just walk away from. Shit is happening, and until it's over, he's going to be rather short of time to do such trivial stuff as blogging. Which is where Heather comes in.

Hi Heather, glad you could make it. I'm rather a fan of Bristol (scenery, food, drink and people). Perhaps we'll see you at a future BristolCon?

15:

Glad you enjoy the Bristol vibe - it's like a sort of mini-London, always with plenty going on. I've never been to the Con but am hoping to attend in 2019, so will maybe see you there!

16:

I think you'd enjoy it - guests next year are Diane Duane, Gareth Powell and Andy Bigwood, the latter two being local (and Andy being one of the convention's founding parents).

(Diane is very not-local: she lives in the wilds of Co. Wicklow. Her GoH invitation was a bit of a surprise for us, especially as she's up for WorldCon a few weeks earlier, but she does know MEG, who is the current con chair.)

It may be a one day convention, but we always end up staying the nights before and after so we don't miss anything. At an early one, we saw Paul Cornell at the registration desk in the evening, booking back into the hotel so he didn't have to leave early to get home. That wouldn't be a problem for anyone from the city itself.

Yes I heard Gareth was a GoH for next year - he'll be great. Sounds like guests from both near and far. Wonder if it'll clash with MCM comic con again...
