Fisherrow Brewery: Press Release 14 Jan 2000

Fisherrow Brewery PRESS RELEASE
ISSUED 14TH JANUARY 2000
FOR IMMEDIATE USE - NO EMBARGO

Legendary 'Ticker' has Beer named in his Honour

Legendary Birmingham beer enthusiast, Mick 'The Tick' Baker, is to have a beer named in his honour by a Scottish brewery.

'Mick The Tick Special', brewed by Fisherrow Brewery, will be the 12,000th variety of real ale that Mick has tasted whilst pursuing his hobby as a 'ticker'. Tickers sample as many different real ales as possible and record the details of each different brew - a beer related version of train spotting!

At a rough estimate, there are about 3000 real ales currently on sale in Britain and Mick's efforts have taken him twenty five years. To achieve this number of 'ticks' since 1975 makes him truly a Champion of the Tickers.

Mick's official 'tick' of his Special will occur in The Maltings at Tanner's Moat in York next Sunday (16th Jan) at 2pm when everyone will have their first chance to taste the new brew.

The beer is a traditional copper coloured bitter but with an unusually high ABV of 5.8% with malt and hops predominating in the taste.

Mick, who has been an avid supporter of both Fisherrow Brewery Limited and other small brewers, is delighted that his 12,000th real ale will be specially brewed for him by the Edinburgh based real ale specialists.

Mick has his own skiffle band 'Mick and the Tickers' who play regularly in pubs and at beer festivals.
