I agree that a step is more likely than a foom, but it could be a big step. Neural fields (essentially nested 2D firing patterns) establish no faster than 100 Hz, and neural densities of pyramid cell complexes are nowhere near as small as current electronic components, the fibrils coming in (up to 10000) are on the order of 5-10 micro m, same with the axon divergence. The way to super intel is not to model neurons precisely, but to achieve the same I/O densities at modern clock speeds, say nesting large node arrays with cycle times at 1 MHz or better. That would "slow" machine perceptual time by 1M. Maybe not foom, but hard to look over.
