...we could not keep up with the expense involved in the arms race, the space race, and the peace race. At the same time our people grumbled for more nylons and washing machines. Our doomsday scheme cost us just a small fraction of what we had been spending on defense in a single year. Ambassador de Sadesky

]]>Ok, we have a winner, here: a True Believer Libertarian. Possibly a gold bug.
So, the winding down of 'Nam, and the cut in government spending had nothing to do with the recession of the early seventies? And the S&L debacle had nothing to do with the one in the late eighties? And the tech bubble had nothing to do with the major recession in the early 'oughtes? And the Great Recession was caused by them?
You're a fool.
]]>Second...it really, really should not be called Star Wars. It should be called Battlestar America.
It was well-known - hell, it was in the papers, like the WaPo - that Raygun would hang out in the White House kitchen with his cronies and watch TV. That fall, my Eldest, who was 13? 14? at the time, was over, and watching the reruns of Battelbarf, and we saw one where the Galatica finds a planet with two (count 'em) superpowers, on the edge of nuclear war, and they wait until they both push the Button... and the Galactica zaps all 30,000 of them (note the number).
And that Jan, Raygun announced SDI in his state of the onion speech, and please, PLEASE go look up the papers from the week following, and you'll see, in the mainstream media, his science advisers, the Pentagon, and everyone going "huh? where'd that come from? We don't know anything about it.", And everyone who had a clue, including the Pentagon, was saying it wasn't do-able.
Too bad the US has a platinum, or maybe titanium, credit card, and the USSR only had a regular card....
]]>PICS!
]]>That, I am afraid, is complete nonsense. Not merely did they know, the whole world knew, and it was regularly reported in British newspapers. Whether the USA politicians actually thought, or merely reacted out of traditional commie-bashing hysteria, I can't say.
]]>This is the Steve Bannon interview sequence.
This is the 60 Minute preview by Stephen Colbert. Once I saw the whole interview, I was disturbed by what Colbert said.
The Worst Part Of Steve Bannon's First Interview: Steve Bannon https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ajFmgmUSYAc
This is the chopped up version of the interview. They make Charlie look functional when he's not.
60 Minutes - Steve Bannon https://www.cbsnews.com/videos/steve-bannon/
These are the complete recordings of the interview. Watch Charlie fake outrage and also get steamrolled. Watch the three parts and you will see that Bannon makes sense. Look back at the 60 Minutes interview and see how they spun the interview with the edit.

After watching over 2.5 hours I am deeply disturbed by Charlie's questions and behavior. They used maybe ten minutes from the whole 2.5 hours to generate the 60 Minutes piece. Based on what I watched, I begin to question all of the negative press about Bannon that I have seen the past year.
Enjoy the video.
]]>Bannon is smart (in a very narrow fashion): his solutions .do .not .work, however much he has identified a (limited range) of the issues America faces. In fact, his 'solutions' lead to WWIII, so hey-ho, let's convince you otherwise[1].
Film to watch: The Great Wall 2016, Matt Damon stars. Ignore all the fluff and crud, it tells you more about China than Bannon understands; the fact that a Damon / William Defoe star is telling you more than you imagine (compare/contrast the popularity / willingness to play ball of M. Bay).
No, really - hit me up with what impressed you, happy to tear it down.
[1] If you're playing in Asia and are willing to be more hawkish than Kissinger, you're in for either a proxy war that will include N/S Korea, or the Real Deal[tm]. Fact.
]]>The Girl with all the Gifts came in the mail and is on my "to be watched pile". I've added it to my collection of E.L.E. DVDs.
I don't know if you have mentioned the movie mother! by Darren Aronofsky. It looks interesting.
When I first saw the trailer weeks ago, I blew it off. Then I saw an analysis of the film and looked it up on wiki, then watched the trailer again.

I haven't watched the movie yet, but I have it on my list to get the DVD when it comes out.
]]>But it's got a couple of very specific messages in it: not least that the Chinese characters operate in a middle space between the smelly, individualistic Westerners and the swarming hive-mind lead by a Queen monsters, each with a specific role to play in the army (cough society cough) and further trashing the Imperial past of their country. Oh, and the Chinese lead is a woman general who doesn't fall for the Male lead (Damon) and saves the country.
It is, rather bizarrely, all about female empowerment (within strict lines).
cough openload.co cough and watch on double speed.
