As an aside, I knew someone who broke his leg getting out of bed. And he was a trained martial artist.
]]>It seems remarkably cheap. I'm obviously missing something critical.
]]>And yes, I totally agree that if we could all avoid climate change by firewalking, I'm pretty sure that everyone who could do it would line up to do it. That's a simple, comparatively easy solution to a horribly complicated problem.
If you want to oversimplify climate change in a slightly more useful way, I'd say that capitalism is based on addictions, especially addictions to power as expressed in a huge number of ways. We're at a place where we've got to give up our addictions to powers or they'll kill civilization and most or all of us, fairly slowly. The power I'm talking about is both physical power as expressed by petroleum, and political power as enabled by petroleum, in all their myriad ways. And just as some addictions physically reshape human brains (which is why it's so effing hard to get clean and stay clean), civilization for the last 100 years has built itself around its addiction to power. Our choices are managed withdrawal, cold turkey quitting, or civilization collapsing, and we keep falling off the wagon with every little step towards a clean economy.
]]>To be serious, there's a tendency I've noticed quite a long time ago. I think this is a new business model for modern first world industries by now, but some of the obvious stitches still remain.
Luckily for (some of) them, they have a chance to not die, provided by international Climate Change cartel. Even such companies can survive if you are going to do things like this: Cryogenic energy storage (been mentioned earlier on this blog): https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2019/oct/21/uk-firm-highview-power-announces-plans-for-first-liquid-to-gas-cryogenic-battery Shale gas, obviously: https://theecologist.org/2019/oct/23/shale-gas-plans-fracking-disarray Recently I heard about thing called "plasma waste incineration": https://waste-management-world.com/a/air-products-to-ditch-plasma-gasification-waste-to-energy-plants-in-teesside Now this passage about "carbon pellets" and "synthetic fuel" almost made me ROFLMAO because of how magically stupid it is. Surprisingly (or maybe not) all of these news are coming from UK, and not from some other countries, so this might be a pattern after all.
Unfortunately doing things like this promises to accumulate unfathomable amount of debt and further increase problems in economy. You can refer to current situation in shale gas, if you are even remotely interested. These all are utopian project not of this world, with variable degree of wishful thinking bringing them to reality, and they will only support economy until they crash it even harder.
Me describing searching for another job with "old saying with depressives, knowing you can end it any time makes it bearable" might say something about my state of mind. But if things work out I'm back in tech support in a few months.
There are two other people officially on the spectrum there, they actually seem to be somewhat more socially adept then me, but I might be mistaken. I just mentioned Apollo 1 to the computer nerd one as an example what would happen with high oxygen levels.
Speaking about the spectrum, a friend from university went into politics and seems to be quite successful, she even got her own page on German wiki, given she was friends with me she surely had strange social behaviours.
[1] Yes, Germans have humour.
[2] Yes, before I leave I'm going to leave a copy of "Neptune's Brood" in the library.
]]>Es war einmal ein Lattenzaum, Mit Zwischenraum hindurchzuschaum
That was, perhaps, not entirely a serious poem ....
]]>Hm, actually I usually do both at the same time when in the mood, but we might differ. ;)
they explained to us that there were three *classes* of drugs for ADD.
Hm, the main classes would be
There are quite a few other agents used, but that would be either experimental or to deal with side effects/other issues.
Personally, I tried a noradrenaline reuptake inhibitor (reboxetine, a failed antidepressant) and currently take a alpha2-agonist against my hypertension (moxonidine).
Reboxetine made for problems urinating and sexual side effects, I want to stop the alpha2-agonist ASAP because I get a light depression from the low dows I'm taking, there is a quite good antidepressant with the opposite effect, mirtazapine, an alpha2-antagonist (Problem is I have quite a reactive sympathetic nervous system and get tachycardia when stressed, and I didn't want to try a betablocker).
So for me, methylphenidate is the best option, I just have to keep to a low dose.
]]>Are you sure ist was "Lattenzaum" vs. "Lattenzaun" and "hindurchzuschaum" vs. "hindurchzuschaun" though? Not that sure, the latter ones are correct in German, but "Schaum" is "foam", so maybe somebody used variant spelling for a joke.
]]>Err, strange coincidence meeting him again in May.
Nice guy, in the end he said it might be for the better if she killed herself, thankfully she didn't.
As for German experimental lyric, back then the girl mentioned above was (and likely still is) into Ernst Jandl. You can find some of his poems here.
Else, not much to say, I'm quite likely depressed (loss of appetite) and got a ticket for Clan of Xymox[1] at the end of November, it's somewhat fitting. Likely no cause for alarm yet. Still, less energy, so no translations of the poems from me yet.
[1] Actually I wanted to revisit my flirt with Dark Wave back in my teens by visiting Deine Lakaien, but their concerts were sold out...
