  First came the excellent Harry Harrison novel Make Room! Make Room! in which soylent was soya and lentils, there was no green. Then the awful film which is more of a naff sequel than anything to do with the book. The drink was much later....

  Hi Charlie! This week, I read Escape from Yokai Land, Dead Lies Dreaming, and Quantum of Nightmares (I had a Laundry backlog). I loved all of them, but wish Yokai Land had been longer. This probably sounds weird, but I was absolutely fascinated by your descriptions of the old rooms in Dead Lies Dreaming. I was surprised to learn a fair bit of history from reading them (e.g., the history of the washing machine and UK electrical sockets). I could've easily done with about 10 more pages of those rooms.   Actually we have laws in England (and probably Scotland too) to handle the undead. You can be declared legally dead after seven years; there are certain conditions that need to be fulfilled, such as making a reasonable attempt to find the person, etc, etc. Since Pirate Rupert has been undead since August 32nd 1812, we can reasonably claim he is dead -- even if he isn't!...

  One thing I didn't understand is why the Banks took so long (6 days?) to come back from Hawaii after the kidnapping of the children was noticed. They stayed there for the conference? Was it so important? I expected them to immediately fly back and start searching. Another oddity is that Nyarlathotep has allowed Elizabeth Windsor to keep acting as head of state. He clearly loves power, the appearance of power, and does not tolerate competition. Why would he suffer the indignity of (nominally) acting in her name? Why would he allow her to get the sweet mana of public...

  Loved QoN, thank you - can't wait for SoS! I'd never wondered before about why no one ever sees the tooth fairy - great question, good source of nightmares for children! Minor formatting issue: "Flytrap skipped forward into the doorway" (page 343 of 378 in Kindle edition) - shouldn't this have a paragraph break before, rather than running straight on from previous sentence? We've been with Mary/Del/GB in the corridor, but with this sentence we switch back to the Terrortots in the chapel. Mary/Del/GB don't enter the chapel until 3 pages later....
