  Ok, so here we go! Apologies for ressurecting a slightly old thread but the french presidental elections are underway -the count - though turnout is said to be down to 65.3% . The BBC are saying we'll have a better idea on who has won after 7pm. ljones...

  Taking as given a ballot with 20 items on it, it would seem that the least hackable solution would be paper ballots with optical scanners, and the paper ballots being saved until all recounts had been completed. (And with the recount having the option of hand-counting if it was alleged that the optical scanning software had been compromised.) Some of us have had this for a couple of decades. But this is not "new and shinny" and thus doesn't LOOK nearly as cool as touch screens when talking about new and improved. Here in my county of about 1 million...
