  Russia just doesn't know how to negotiate with the USA. Australia has it worked out. Do exactly as they say. Copy their every position no matter how absurd. Send supporting troops to every conflict they get themselves embroiled in. In every trade deal accept that the goods you sell should have tariffs while the USA made goods should be sold freely in your country. Better yet, give then large subsidies. When you make agreements, expect the US to ignore their obligations. There should be no consequences for that. Let them establish military bases right in the heart of your country...

  The UK learnt that first, and has been doing it in many aspects of government since the 1950s, though our political consensus kept us from whole-heartedly selling ourselves to the USA until the Thatcherite revolution. Since then, it is mainly the need to work with the rest of the EU that has stopped us from following Australia. One of the main purposes of Brexit is to remove that constraint....

  whitroth @ 722: The wealthy in the US have been on a vehement anti-socialist jihad for well over a century. The thing that scared them the most was the fear that such a country might succeed... which, of course, would lead to things like, I dunno, the New Deal and worse.... The ultra-rich in the U.S. equate socialism with unions. Unions don't allow them to run their business the way think they should be able to; things like working their employees to death and stealing their wages....

  Greg Tingey @ 733: Except Sanders, unlike DT was & is not interested in "smashing" the system. He "merely" wants a transiton to something resembling a European Social Democracy. I don't think DT wants to smash the system as much as he wants to pillage it....
