I mean potentially it could be about trend analysis, with someone finding popular writer X is about to do Y monsters, and thus we need to start buying Y now to ride the coat tails, or prep merch. Way easier to just get drunk with some middle managers though....

One parenthetical note--the manuscript of DEATHLY HALLOWS (the final Harry Potter book) was really quickly scanned and distributed worldwide. The really sad part is that over half of the fandom who looked at it thought it was a bad fanfic scam......
