  Ratchet handles and socket sets are universally square Imperial, 1/4" up through 1" and beyond. The home workshop tops out at 3/4" drive usually, most folks stop at 1/2". The 1/4" hex socket is not uncommon for things like screw bits and some other tooling....

  Those are fun. Learning how to use one can be a bit non-intuitive because of the cutting angle being the only difference between certain sizes of some imperial parts. Viz, just because you have a 1/4" x 26tpi bolt does not mean that any old 1/4" x 26tpi bolt will fit the hole. If you're lucky it will just be loose, if you're not it will go in fine but not come out ever after a load goes in it. In bicycle world we have axles. And the nuts that go on them.   the cutting angle being the only difference between certain sizes of some imperial parts. Whitworth and BSF are 55 degree threads but everything else for steel fasteners after that, US, British and European metric are 60 degree and yes, you can't tell which is which from a pitch gauge. 1/4" 26tpi is, as far as I know, always BSF. UNC 1/4" thread is 20tpi, UNF 1/4" thread is 28tpi which will pick up in a BSF nut or tapped hole but won't progress more than a turn or two before binding. If that's happening then you're using the wrong fastener....
