It's a mess, to be sure. I know more than a few people who throw up their hands and say 'They were conquered, deal with it!'. When the truth is that they were not conquered (mostly), they made treaties or at least chose to live peacably. I don't know the answer, and I suspect any 'answer' is highly specific to each group, and will take a long time to resolve. It is time worth taking (and money well spent)....

Completely agree. It appears from the anecdotal evidence in the link above that the marine windmill design got comparative performance to an equivalent conventional rig recreational cat. That suggests that there is room for improvement, though I'd love to see a race with a Blackbird equivalent up against a comparable rigged landyacht to demonstrate true performance....

So they did that in the end? I thought it had been knocked on the head because it had been so badly presented that people all got it into their heads that it would obstruct navigation, and it proved impossible to get it out again. Anyway, there's an answer to fouling: have the turbines hoik themselves out of the water every so often for an automatic scrub. Or a jetwash, which would probably be easier....
